Money matters

Everybody is talking about the big money that Salman Khan is being paid for his debut on television. Rumours have it that he asked for a hike in remuneration after shooting the first couple of episodes. But those who know him closely insist that Salman is often ruled by his heart rather than by money.

Salman ka dum

During the mock rehearsals of Dus Ka Dum, one of the questions that stumped everyone was on cricket. Suddenly Salman reached for his cell phone and called the ex-captain of Team India, Azharuddin, and asked him for the answer. Nothing odd about that, except that Azharuddin happens to be the husband of Salman’s girlfriend of many years, Sangeeta Bijlani. Very few know that Salman is still in touch with Azhar and Sangeeta and they are very good friends.

The new lingo

If KBC and Big B made “Lock kar diya jaaye”a fad in the first season of the game, then SRK had his own mantra, too, for the second season. Now it’s Salman’s turn and he has come out with “Chaap do”—which is already a rage. Don’t be surprised if his little pigtail makes a style statement, too

Salman Khan’s brand value goes through the roof!

June 21, 2008 (Sawf News) - 10 Ka Dum is not just getting decent TRP ratings it has sent Salman Khan's brand value skyrocketing. Studio 18 has acquired world rights for Salman - Ajay Devgan starrer, London Dreams for a whopping Rs. 120 crore, even before the film has gone on floors.

Jointly produced by Paramjeet Singh and Vipul Shah, and directed by Vipul Shah, the film is planned to be released with 500 prints worldwide.

Earlier, Eros International was reported to have lapped up Hrithik Roshan starrer Kites in a similar deal for Rs 110 crore, the highest so far by an Indian film. Salman's film has aced that amount.

Kites, directed by Anuraag Basu and produced by Rakesh Roshan, additionally stars Kangana Ranaut and US-based model Barbara Mori, and like London Dreams is yet to go on the floors.

Vipul Shah confirmed the deal to us saying, "It is true that we have clinched a deal for our London Dreams for a record breaking price. But right now it wouldn't be right to disclose the figures. We are planning a trial shoot presently between Salman and Ajay of two days."

Industry sources claim that Salman's popularity with 10 Ka Dum has helped London Dreams fetch such a whopping price.

The film tells the story of two musical geniuses who are childhood friends but end up turning foes when pitched against each other as competitors. It was conceived with Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan playing lead, but both declined to be pitted against each other. Santoshi then signed on Salman and Ajay Devgan instead.

Filming started early in 2007 with a day's shoot at the Golden Temple in Amritsar but stalled soon after over differences between the director and producer.

The film was revived in March with Vipul Shah as the director, replacing Raj Kumar Santoshi.

Shooting is expected to start by the end of this month in Mumbai, and move to locations in London in August - September.
